Online gaming: updated guidance for parents

24 July 2017

From virtual reality to the latest advice: our updated guide will help parents and carers get to grips with their children’s online gaming

As online gaming develops so should our resources and knowledge. Our online gaming guidance for parents has been updated to showcase some new technology as well as adding even more support and information for parents about online gaming.

The guidance now includes two new sections; virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) games.

Virtual reality is the use of immersive wearable technology, such as headsets, which place a person and their movements into a virtual world or game.

Augmented reality is where the user’s game is brought into the real world, usually through the use of a camera and interplay between the digital and physical world. AR can be seen in games such as Pokémon Go.

The guidance now includes a section of links to other support and information to help parents and carers. This information includes other websites to visit, links to regulators and information about where to go to make a report.
