Press release: Understand, Prevent and Respond to Cyberbullying

21 January 2016

Childnet to host CPD training events in both London and Manchester to launch new guidance and resources for schools.

Online issues affect us all and with young people spending more time online than ever before it’s crucial that school leaders understand the positives and negatives of internet culture within their communities and have the management strategies required.

To help schools develop strategies to understand, prevent and respond to cyberbullying, leading online safety charity Childnet will be holding two CPD training events in Manchester and London in March 2016.

The events will mark the launch of Childnet’s new Cyberbullying Guidance and Teaching Resources, which have been funded by the Government and European Union, and developed through consultation with young people, teachers and leading experts.

Childnet have teamed up with the education organisation, Suklaa, to design two professional development events for teachers and school leadership teams to provide teachers and school leadership teams with the training and advice they need to manage cyberbullying within their schools.

Childnet’s CEO Will Gardner says: “We know that cyberbullying is the key online safety issue that schools face; and we know the serious long-lasting impact it can have on children. In the development of our guidance and teaching resources we have been consulting with young people, teachers and experts to collect practical strategies for effectively preventing and responding to cyberbullying. These interactive events will be an opportunity for all key stakeholders; to share their experiences and thinking with their peers and fellow attendees.”

The events, happening on Monday 14th March in London and Monday 21st March in Manchester are designed to be interactive and to flip the conventional conference model by recognising the expertise of the attendees and allowing them a platform for open debate. There will be workshops on delivering the new resources, panel discussions and keynotes from ministers, Ofsted, industry experts and young people.

Lord Jim Knight, ex minister of state for schools and now Chief Education Adviser at TES will host both days. He says: “Cyberbullying is often invisible to adults and can happen outside school, so it’s a genuine management challenge for school leaders. These events are a vital opportunity to learn best practice and how we can safeguard, inform and support this digital generation.”

Earlybird tickets to these CPD accredited events are £30, spaces are limited- you can book now at: www.childnet.com/cyberbullying-events
