| Childnet Welcomes Launch of Internet Content Rating Association 14 May 1999 |
Nigel Williams, Director of Childnet International, today welcomed the announcement
by a number of leading Internet companies that they were funding the establishment
of the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA). ICRA will build on the existing
work of the Recreational Software Advisory Council with its RSACi rating system
and seek to develop a more broadly based international system over the next
year. Childnet has strongly advocated the development of such a rating system
for the last three years and was a founder member of the International Working
Group on Content Rating which is a direct predecessor of ICRA. While there
are many obstacles to overcome, the potential benefits for parents and children
of an international system giving objective descriptions of content on web
sites are great.
