A deep dive into Safer Internet Day resources: 3-7s edition

17 January 2022

Each year in the UK, Safer Internet Day explores a new issue or theme which is impacting the lives of young people in the UK. For 2022 the Day celebrates young people’s role in creating a safer internet and the ways they are shaping the interactive entertainment spaces they are a part of.

As you may already know, this year’s Safer Internet Day theme is:

The UK Safer Internet Centre has created a vast array of resources to support you in delivering sessions for Safer Internet Day, whether you are a school, nursery, youth group, library, police service or wider.

By helping learners to feel confident and secure, they are more likely to share their ideas and opinions, ask questions, and contribute to discussions without fear of judgment or negative feedback.

The Safer Internet Day 2022 educational resources for ages 3-7 are designed to be adaptable and accessible to support all learners in this age group in exploring this year’s theme, ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’.

What is included in the educational resources for 3-7 year olds?

Assembly Slides

To support your assembly to 3-7 year olds, there is a 12-slide PowerPoint supported with questions, prompts, pictures and animated icons to maximise engagement from your learners.

Assembly Script

This will complement the assembly slides for young people aged 3-7. On Slides 7-10, a range of optional questions are provided. You may choose the questions that you are going to ask in advance and hide or delete the rest.

Activity Menu

This includes an overview of activities for both 3-5 and 5-7 year olds, so that you can nuance activities to suit the needs and abilities of your learners.

What are the learning objectives of these resources?

The learning resources for 3-7 years are based on the story ‘Digiduck and the Magic Castle’ which is available here.

To support schools in fitting Safer Internet Day activities into their online safety curriculum, we have provided learning outcomes where relevant.

These have been taken from the free, non-statutory Education for a Connected World framework and can also be mapped against curricula or programmes of study that reflect your context.
