Resources, the Quiz and SID Stars!

29 January 2016

This week the UK Safer Internet Centre have launched a number of new pages on the UK Safer Internet Centre website to encourage everyone to get involved in Safer Internet Day 2016.

The pages include advice for parents and young people, the Safer Internet Day Quiz and the SID Stars page!

Advice pages for parents and young people

The UK Safer Internet Centre launched advice pages for parents and carers, 3 – 11s and 11 – 18s.

Parents and carers play a crucial role in supporting children to navigate the risks and make the most of the opportunities offered by technology. That’s why the UK Safer Internet Centre are encouraging parents to have a conversation with their child this Safer Internet Day about staying safe online. To help they’ve pulled together a host of resources on the Parents & Carers page including a parent factsheet, conversation starters for parents and links to the leaflet Supporting Young People Online.

This Safer Internet Day we’re encouraging young people to play their part in creating a kinder more inclusive internet. On the advice pages for 3 – 11s and 11 – 18s you’ll find tips on how to create a better internet alongside SIDTV videos for each age group.

Safer Internet Day Quiz

This week the UK Safer Internet Centre launched the Safer Internet Day Quiz! Aimed at 9 -13 year olds the Safer Internet Day can be played by anyone, and can be used alongside the Education Packs and SID TV films or used on its own.

Throughout the Safer Internet Day quiz see what choices you would make when faced with a series of dilemmas, covering topics including cyberbullying, trolling, respect and kindness online, looking out for friends and pressures online. In the process you will discover lots of helpful feedback and advice.

SID Stars

We’re also pleased to share the SID Stars page which showcases some of the celebrities who are supporting Safer Internet Day!

Those supporting the day include UK Safer Internet Centre Ambassador Beth Tweddle, CBBC Friday Download presenters and pop stars Molly Rainford and Harvey Cantwell and Jordan and Perri from Dance group Diversity.
