World Password Day

7 May 2014

How often should you change your passwords? Do you have different passwords for different accounts? What would you do if someone finds out your password?

At Childnet we believe you should treat your password like your toothbrush: don’t share it with anyone and change it often.

Today, on World Password Day, we want to share our top tips to ensure that you and your families passwords are as safe and secure as possible. Our Perfect Passwords Checklist is a great place to start to help create the perfect password.

When creating a password, make sure you do the following:

  1. use letters and numbers
  2. use a minimum of 8 characters
  3. don’t contain any personal information
  4. use characters like brackets, &, or %
  5. use a mixture of capitals and lower case letters
  6. use a sentence or a line from a song instead of just one word
  7. only use the first letters of that sentence
  8. use different languages
  9. will be easy for me to remember

It is important to remember to keep all personal information online private.
