Childnet announces the launch of the Know IT All Internet safety campaign

1 November 2005

Childnet is pleased to announce the launch of the Know IT All Internet safety campaign aimed at secondary schools. This campaign which is a joint initiative with MSN UK, Microsoft and the Virtual Global Taskforce, consists of a pilot volunteer programme called Getting to Know IT All, and a teachers resource pack called Know IT All.

The volunteer programme Getting to Know IT All has been piloted in schools by volunteers from Microsoft UK and Police Forces to 40,000 young people nationwide. In parallel to this pilot, the Know IT All pack for teachers has been delivered free of charge to 6000 schools across the UK.

The Know IT All pack contains an interactive CD-ROM to help pupils (KS3/4) understand a broad range of issues when using the internet or mobile phone. The purpose of KIA is to help students reflect on their own use of communication technology, be aware of the dangers and develop safe and discriminating behaviour when using new technology. The content addresses a number of issues relevant to the national curriculum in information and communication technology (ICT), personal, health and social education (PHSE), citizenship, and media literacy. For further information about the volunteer programme or the pack see www.childnet-int.org/kia.
