Childnet takes part in the push to make children central to the World Summit on the Information Society

16 September 2005

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS, www.itu.int/wsis) is seeking to bridge the digital divide and build an inclusive information society in pursuit of the development goals of the Millenium Declaration. Childnet is working in partnership with other international NGOs to ensure that the WSIS process and any commitments that are made have a strong focus on children and ensuring children benefit from the incredible opportunities that technology has to offer them.

Will Gardner, Childnet’s Research and Policy manager, will be in Geneva next week at WSIS’s PrepCom meeting, where he will be speaking about the importance of taking a child focus in this process, and the importance of not just providing the technology but providing the technology and the knowledge about how to use it safely and responsibly.
