Childnet welcomes Tom, our new Education Officer

7 September 2016

We’re delighted to welcome Tom as the newest member of the Childnet team! We caught up with Tom to find out a bit more about what he’ll be doing here at Childnet.

How have you found working at Childnet so far?

Fantastic! Everyone has been very welcoming. I have started to look through the presentations I will be using when I start visiting schools and getting to know the team. I am really excited to be going on my first school visit tomorrow where I will shadow Ellie and see how it is done.

What does your job as Education Officer entail?

As Education Officer I will be visiting schools to talk to students, parents and staff about the benefits of the internet and how to use the internet safely and responsibly. I will also be involved in projects and creating resources that we can use in schools or pass on to people through our website.

What did you do before coming to Childnet? How will this help you in your new role?

Before coming to Childnet I was a secondary school teacher for 8 years. My main subjects were PSHE and citizenship so I have a lot of experience teaching social issues like internet safety. I will bring all that experience and my enthusiasm to my new role.

What part of working at Childnet are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to getting out into schools and helping people to appreciate the amazing opportunities that the internet offers us. I remember what life was like before the internet!
