With entries for the Childnet Film Competition closing on the 8th June, let’s take a closer look at what you have to do to enter.
The Childnet Film Competition is now in its 13th year and is open to all young people based in the UK. The challenge is to create a short online safety film or a storyboard with a script in response to this year’s theme:
Once again, we’re on the look-out for films with a positive and clear message about the ways we can use the internet.
With one week left until the closing date for entries, you may already be putting the finishing touches on your films.
Educators or group leaders must submit entries on behalf of schools or youth groups, while individuals will need an educator, parent or carer to send their entries. Films and entry documents can be submitted using WeTransfer or Dropbox – please send these to film@childnet.com
Finishing touches
Avoid using commercial chart or well-known music tracks, or images from a game as these will not be copyright free. We will not be able to accept any films that do not adhere to this. Before submitting your film, we recommend looking through our copyright guidance here.
Films also must be under 2 minutes to be considered – the time frame must include any credits you wish to add. It is advisable to keep credits to a minimum to avoid losing time for your film content and remember to add first names only!

I want to enter but haven’t started yet
It’s not too late! We also have a storyboard category – drawing a storyboard takes considerably less time than creating a film and you have a whole week to do so.
Open to all young people in the UK, the Storyboard Category provides an excellent post-SATs activity for schools who would like to inspire creativity and promote online safety.
Across all categories, the challenge is to create a film or storyboard that promotes positive use of the internet which can help other young people stay safe online.
