22nd - 26th October is Get Safe Online week.  Get Safe Online Week is organized by Get Safe Online a partnership between the Government, the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), Ofcom and private sector sponsors, aiming to educate, inform and raise awareness of internet security issues to encourage confident, safe use of the internet.

We have launched the Safer Internet Day Have your Say survey, which asks children and young people from the UK to consider what they believe will make the internet a better place, also giving them the chance to reflect on their own online responsibilities, considering how the way they act online can affect their own and other people's online experiences. We will present the collated views and opinions of children and young people across the UK to the government on Safer Internet Day.

Childnet are delighted to announce the winners of our Film Competition! On July 9th 2012 we invited 6 schools to join us at our Film Competition finalist event. This year we experienced more entries then ever before at an incredibly high standard! The themes leant themselves to some really creative films. The primary category theme was

The government has today launched a consultation to ask parents and businesses whether automatic online blocks should be introduced to help protect children from adult and harmful websites.

Childnet are working with the NSPCC to share young people's thoughts at the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) Summit on 28th June. As a result we want to ask as many young people as possible about what is trending on the internet and what they think are the better ways to control content and protect children online. The summit will give us the opportunity to share directly with the government, policy makers and key internet services the thoughts of young people from across the UK.

Childnet was supported in the London Marathon by London secondary school teacher Andy Marlow, who ran a very swift time in only his 3rd marathon!

Positive and inspiring use of the internet is at the heart of the Childnet Film Challenge 2012. Childnet is inviting all schools and youth organisations in the UK to enter our challenge. Two separate projects are in place for primary and secondary aged children. The theme will be revealed to entrants on Monday 16th April 2012.

Will Gardner has joined the judging panel for Trend Micro ‘What’s Your Story?’ film contest for the second year running. The 2012 ‘What’s your Story?’ competition, invites schools, families, and individuals over seven years old in the UK, to create and submit a short video, song, story, poem or drawing to share their advice to other young people about ‘How to be Web Safe’.
