Childnet And Cisco Systems Teach Primary School Children To Use The Internet Safely
Childnet and Cisco Systems have successfully completed the pilot phase of their “Kidsmart” volunteering project, designed to help pupils in primary schools use the Internet safely. Childnet International employees and volunteers from Cisco Systems worked in partnership to teach over 1,000 pupils, across nine primary schools in the Tower Hamlets region of London.
Childnet supports home office internet education awareness campaign
As a member of the Home Office Task Force on Child protection on the Internet, Childnet has contributed to a major Home Office education and awareness campaign promoting internet safety. The campaign includes high profile advertisements in the national press and a new dedicated website.

Nigel Williams, Childnet's founder and first CEO, has been awarded an international award for his “outstanding contribution with international impact to the awareness of social implications of information technology”, at the Institut d’Informatique, Namur, Belgium.

Childnet have submitted responses to two important policy consultations this week
Firstly to the Home Office and Scottish Executive consultation on the possession of extreme pornographic material. Childnet support the proposal in the consultation to make illegal the possession of extreme pornographic material. The production and publishing of such material is already illegal, and Childnet outline in the response why the possession of such material should also be made illegal.Childnet have also recently submitted a response to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) Consultation on the Draft Safety Measures Notice for Mobile Chat Services.
