International Competition Discovers Young People Using The Internet To Tackle Major Global Issues

Poverty in Africa, teen pregnancy and global terrorism are just three of the major issues being tackled by the winners of an international web development competition for young people, announced today. The competition, open to young people (aged 18 and under) is part of the Cable & Wireless Childnet Academy 2005.

Children help in the design of new Chatdanger website

Childnet’s new “Chatdanger” website uses real life stories to demonstrate the potential dangers online and to give advice about how to stay safe on Chat, Instant Messenger, Online Games, E-mail and mobiles. Following extensive research with children in the UK and in Denmark, the original site has undergone a complete redesign to bring it up to date so it can keep pace with young visitors’ needs and the changing use of interactive technology.

Local launch of Childnet's Jenny's Story

On Thursday 27th January 2005 Childnet and Lancashire Constabulary are holding a special local launch of the Jenny's Story film and support material. “Jenny’s Story” is a hard hitting film produced by Childnet working in partnership with Lancashire Constabulary. The film is based on the true story of Jenny* a young teenager who chats to a stranger online using Instant Messenger. The film shows how through online chatting, Jenny reveals personal information which results in her being contacted in real life, and ultimately hurt.
