Meet Evie

Where are you from?

East of England

What do you love about going online?

I love getting inspiration from Pinterest, chatting with my friends on apps such as Whatsapp, researching for schoolwork and projects and watching videos on Youtube.

Why did you apply to join the Childnet Youth Advisory Board?

I want to make the internet a safer place. Due to evolving technology, apps and social media, it becomes an ever-changing issue, and the voices of young people who are the most impacted by these positives and negatives can help improve this. Together, our voices can create change, drawing on all our experiences and challenges.

If you could change one thing about the internet, what would it be?

People’s ignorance about AI. We need to understand that it’s a tool, and misusing or lack of knowledge can lead to bias, misinformation and data being used in the wrong ways. We need to realise how we shape AI can impact its uses and functions, and use it responsibly and safely.

If you could give one piece advice for adults about keeping children safe online, what would it be?

Remember how often things change. Apps, content and trends change, meaning the way children use their devices changes. This can mean they can then use them in a way that isn’t safe. Keep on top of safety settings, change them as necessary, and do regular checks to maintain protection.

What 5 words would you use to describe yourself?

Bookish, funny, creative, conscientious, kind
