Time to talk! How can people support each other online?

On the 4th July 2023, the British Film Institute hosted the grand final of the Childnet Film Competition, where all finalists and representatives from their school or youth group were invited to watch their film on the big screen!

Not only that, but our judges attended to present the winners and runners-up with their trophies and prizes! Find out the winners and runners-up below and watch their film.

First place – Milton Abbey School

Congratulations to Milton Abbey School for coming first place in the secondary category!

In this documentary style film, the presenter uses fly-on-the-wall techniques to take us through the different behaviours of the subjects he is observing, in an entertaining and insightful way. The audience are provided with a glimpse into the online lives and habits of young people, highlighting the importance of empathy and human connection in all that they do.

Second Place – Tuxford Academy

Congratulations to Tuxford Academy for coming second place in the secondary category!

The tale of a boy whose dream was to be a YouTuber. This story shows us how the weight of negative comments online can take their toll on our mental health and wellbeing, and what we can do to protect ourselves, and our friends, to deal with online hate and bullying. Join the movement to be a force for good and spread positivity online!

Third place – St Matthew Academy

Well done to St Matthew Academy for achieving third place in the secondary category!

This short film highlights the importance of supporting each other online and demonstrates the difference that you can make to someone’s day simply by taking the time to show them you care. A beautiful reminder that sharing a little love, kindness and positivity with your friends, on each platform that you use, can really go a long way!
